About Me
As a board-certified gynecologist at ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ and director of the Center for Fibroid Care, I am committed to providing my patients with the information they need to make personal, empowered decisions about their own health. My focus is on managing benign gynecologic conditions such as uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and ovarian cysts. Too many people live with symptoms of these conditions, which include abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, and infertility. I aim to provide relief that improves quality of life.
My special focus is on fibroid care. I work with my patients to develop individual treatment plans that focus on their distinct life goals, such as fertility or pain relief.
I perform all types of surgery for benign gynecological conditions, using laparoscopic and minimally invasive approaches for fibroid removal, ovarian cyst removal, hysterectomy, and similar procedures. I also offer same-day procedures to treat fibroids—including hysteroscopy and endometrial ablation as well as new technologies, such as nonsurgical transcervical radiofrequency ablation and minimally invasive laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation.
I combine my passion for patient care with my interest in research. This allows me to follow my patients over the long term and see which treatments offer the best outcomes. This information helps us improve care for all.
In addition to patient care, I serve as director of the in the at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. I am also director of Global Women’s Health at NYU’s School of Global Public Health. I actively research and raise awareness about global health and women’s health issues. I serve as the president and medical director of Saving Mothers, a nonprofit organization I founded that focuses on women’s health, education, and empowerment in low-resource regions.
My research focuses on interventions that can help to reduce the number of women who die during pregnancy or childbirth around the world. I am editor-in-chief of the book Around the Globe for Women’s Health: A Practical Guide for the Health Care Provider, and am frequently called on for my expertise in women’s health by national media outlets, including CBS News, the Today show, and Good Morning America. I have been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Woman’s Day, Newsweek, the New York Daily News, Self, Prevention, and many other publications.
Through the treatment I offer to patients, as well as my research and engagement with media outlets, I strive to be an advocate for women, both locally and globally, and to champion women’s health education and self-empowerment.
